In the fall of 2008, the five of us sat down in a room and tried to make something from nothing.
After months of reading, researching, rehearsing, writing, re-rehearsing, re-writing, and throwing everything back at the wall, we performed Curiouser: An Historical Inaccuracy in the Old Gym at Bard College in the spring of 2009. Later that fall, we moved to our new home in New Orleans and performed a re-imagined version of Curiouser at the New Orleans Fringe Festival. The following spring, nearly a year after our first performance, we went back to Bard and performed the new version of Curiouser for all of the friends and colleagues that helped inspire us in the first place.
Now, five years later, we’re getting ready to go back to Bard for a month-long residency in the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, the very building in which our company was formed. This January, we’ll set out to do what we did around that conference table in 2008: make something from nothing. We’ll probably do it around that same conference table, too. All month, we’ll be reading and researching and rehearsing and writing and re-rehearsing and re-writing to begin the process of creating our next original work. What will happen? We have no idea. But that’s how we like it.
It is a great honor to be welcomed back to the very place that gave us our start. The place that our company was born. The place that made us who we are. We really couldn’t be more excited.
Check back throughout January for photos and updates. We’ll see you soon!
